Lesson Plan Supplemental Materials
This lesson plan will touch on the cognition and general knowledge of science. The life cycle of a butterfly to be more specific. In this lesson the children will become familiar with and explore the stages of the life cycle. The will be able to identify what the order is by recall, repetition and then recognition by being engaged with the different materials, books and technology provided. Below you will find a few examples.
This is a very short Prezi of the life cycle of a butterfly, one of the technology choices for my lesson plan. The purpose is to allow the children something very simple to operate on the class tablet that is easy to use and educational. This will give them a preview of what the class Prezi will look and fell like once it is complete at the end of the lesson plan week as the final project. This Prezi can really be used for multiple things not only as an activity, but also as a teaching tool and as an assessment with preschool children. I also though about creating a "Butterfly Match game", where the children would demonstrate sorting identification, and hand eye coordination skills by tapping all red butterflies, then blue and green and so forth and so on. I am just not that skilled in the game developing area. I was able to create a butterfly sliding puzzle game. I just could not find the embed code, but I put the link below if you want to check it out. I think it is really cool.

Reflective Wrap-Up
I am a program coordinator at the center that I work at, so I am not really in one room or another, I am in all six of the classroom daily though. I can tell you that as part of the administration team we have made sure each classroom has some sort of technology incorporated onto the daily program. The school age children have three computers and two tablets. All three preschool rooms and both infant/toddler rooms have one computer and two tablets. One of my biggest concerns are that the staff just allow the children to have too much meaningless screen time. Another concern is that children are not always monitored as they should be. I don't want to take the technology away, so I have planned a staff meeting to discuss proper usage. Too much technology in the classroom can lead to lower scores on classroom environmental rating scales and I just want the staff to be aware of this. I love that the children have the exposure, but sometimes it can be misused. I plan to have them limit the use to absolutely no movies, show, cartoon or anything non-educational even if it goes alone with there interest or theme. I have hopes of them limiting technology usage to an average of an hour per school day. Available for use during open center times. Maybe a little more for school age due to them actually using theirs from mostly educational purposes already and it being so many of the in the room. One hour would not serve as enough time for 20-30 children unless grouped together to work.
Within that time frame of use we might encounter some technical errors like low memory, servers going down, systems overheating or fried motherboard. All of these issue can bring the technology to a complete halt. When these types of problem occur teachers usually move on to another activity until the repairs are made. These kinds of errors mostly affects the school age group of children and the staff. For most of the time they are working on something "big and juicy" as they call it. The preschool and under don't really care about having to do other activities, in fact I think that most of the time they would rather. I do not believe that the children in our program will have many struggles with technology if any at all. I think they are born knowing how to work a cell phone and tablet these days. But seriously I see them come in the the childcare center younger and younger using their parents devices. As far as kik, snapchat, facebook and any other type of social media, it is not allowed nor encouraged with any of the age groups that we serve. In fact we had to do a no personal tablet and cellphone rule due to a picture being taken with a phone of one class mate and another posting it on some social media website. Even though it was nothing more then the child not wanting the picture posted because she did not like the face she was making, it became an issue brought to my attention by her parents, so we had to end that.
Every year at the end of the summer the school age children put on this huge talent show to showcase some of what they have been working on. They dance, sing, role play and conduct, but never get to see how they did due to them actually being the ones to perform. This year I am going to assign them my ipad to allow the to record, review and watch how great they are and then at the end of the making of it all I plan on putting together a slide show type of presentation and play it in the white board for their parent to see as they wait for the show to begin. They can even watch it at the end of the show as well. I also will be able to send it to each family if they are interested, after getting consent to video/photograph forms signed by each family of coarse. I am defiantly not a digital native. This is all new to me. I have been doing a little more since taking this class. I plan to continue to embark on this technological journey with the help of my three teen aged children. They are really patient with me and are willing to show me the tech tricks that they know and are learning from school or friends. Its so funny though, because I can remember when we had one up on our parents back in the day with the whole star sixty-nine thing. Its crazy to see how this newer generation has surpassed us so greatly as we scramble to catch up, well me anyway. I find that nothing frustrates me nor excite me about technology. I still remain neutral to to it and as long as I have somebody there to show me the way, I am not worried at all.
